“Blodeuwedd” (pronunciation: bluh DIE weth is the Welsh Goddess of spring and is often associated with Mabon. Blodeuwedd was created by magic and betrothed to Lleu Llaw Gyffes, who was cursed from ever knowing mortal love or marriage from a woman. In this story, the beautiful maiden was created out of 9 flowers – primrose, bean, broom, meadowsweet, cockle (burdock), nettle, oak, hawthorn, and chestnut.
Her story is one of personal sovereignty and learning what it means to accept one’s self. From a timid, submissive wife, she became a solitary force of nature. She becomes wise in self-assertion. For some, her message is about leaving behind our subservient expectations, youth, and innocence to claim the Divine Feminine Power allowing for true transformation and wisdom.
